Each holiday season Texas County Memorial Hospital Healthcare Foundation sponsors a giving program called “Celebrate Our Memories” in partnership with TCMH Hospice of Care.
Beginning in November, a nine-foot Christmas tree is placed in the front lobby of the hospital, which is decorated with various shaped ornaments that are “gifted” and inscribed with the name or a message in honor or in memory of someone special in their life. The Foundation divides all funds generated by the program with another TCMH entity-Hospice of Care, so the Christmas program actually benefits two local charitable organizations. The “Celebrate Our Memories” program took the place of the “Let Our Light Shine” program that TCMH has held on the hospital’s campus in recent years.
As part of Celebrate Our Memories, those who “gift” an ornament are invited to keep the ornament as a personal keepsake of their memory at the end of the holiday season, after the tree is removed from the hospital’s front lobby.
Chili Cook-Off – Hospice Of Care Benefit
The TCMH Healthcare Foundation’s annual Chili Cook Off has become one of the premier fundraising events in Texas County and the surrounding area. The annual event is held in early November and all funds raised stay in the local community to benefit TCMH Hospice of Care patients and their family members. Since its inception in 2007, the event has raised over $400,000 to help with hospice patient care resources. In an effort to directly enhance patient care, funds raised have been utilized to acquire specialized air mattresses, reclining sleeper chairs for hospice in patient rooms, and provided 24/7 hospice physician coverage as well as other vital resources.
TCMH Healthcare Foundation Golf Tournament
The TCMH Healthcare Foundation hosts a charitable golf tourney each year in early June. Funds raised have provided scholarships for several local students to pursue additional educational training in health-related career fields. Traditionally, the event has been played at Oakwood Golf Course in Houston, MO. The format is a two-person scramble with tee off times slated for 8AM and 1PM. Sponsorships are already being received for the next event and golfers are starting to sign up. Make plans to join us but don’t wait long, as the tourney field fills up each year!
Foundation Scholarship Program
The TCMH Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors recognizes the importance of having well trained and qualified healthcare professionals. As a result, the Foundation has identified healthcare-related scholarships as one of the organization’s focus areas. By assisting students in their educational endeavors, the Foundation hopes that students will return to or stay in the Texas County area to provide healthcare services to area residents after receiving additional education.
The TCMH Healthcare Foundation Educational Scholarship Program is designed to assist all students that are pursuing or planning to pursue education in a healthcare related field that involves direct patient care. Currently, the TCMH Healthcare Foundation plans to award two $1000 scholarships in the spring and two $1000 scholarships in the fall.
